Existing tenants that are remaining at the Churnet Works site in Leek have now signed on the dotted line to occupy new, purpose-built premises provided by Sainsbury’s.
The major, mixed-use regeneration of the Macclesfield Road site includes the demolition of the traders’ existing buildings, which are being replaced by new, bespoke facilities.
The new buildings will ensure that a number of popular local companies can continue to trade and thrive in Leek, and all of the owners have now signed up to their leases.
Tenants include textile manufacturing and dyeing businesses, Portland Dyeing Company and Magic Textiles; furniture and carpentry companies, Roger Goodwin Pine Services, John Hall Furniture, Dominic Cooper Cabinet Makers and Allan Calder Limited, as well as embroidery company, Gaddum and Gaddum Limited, and Elite Gaming, makers of specialised arcade games machines.
Sainsbury’s has now begun preparing the site for the construction of the tenants’ new buildings, which is the first phase of the development. This will allow the tenants to move from their old units to the new premises at the earliest opportunity, ensuring continuity of trade for their businesses as construction progresses.
The relocations are set to be completed in May.
Sainsbury’s Project Manager, Nick Alston, comments, “We are delighted to confirm that all of the tenants that are remaining at the site have now signed up to their new premises. Many of these businesses are Leek through and through and it’s a pleasure to be able to ensure they can continue trading locally in new and improved facilities.
He added: “This is one of the first major benefits the Sainsbury’s development will provide for Leek and its community, and we look forward to continuing our good progress with the regeneration of Churnet Works.”
The community will be kept updated on the programme of works throughout the entire development, but any questions can be put to Richard Harris on Sainsbury’s freephone 0800 975 5299.
