Community Benefits

Sainsbury's Commitment

The regeneration of Churnet Works will create jobs for local people, add to Leeks’ existing shopping offer, cater to the growth of the community and improve the town’s capacity for business and trade.

The development will ensure Leek remains attractive and prosperous and continues to compete commercially with neighbouring towns.

Listed Buildings

The listed buildings along Macclesfield Road and Mill Street, as well as the bridge on Abbey Green Road, will be retained – with their settings enhanced by new landscaped areas on the proposed development site, including a new park, a conservation area, attractive river walks and green open spaces.

Sainsburys Leek: Improving you local store

Sainsbury’s is committed to building stores that have a low impact on the environment and does this through intelligent design, sustainable sourcing of materials and efficient use of energy and resources.

Sainsburys Leek: Improving you local store

We have installed a total of 20 biomass boilers in our stores since 2008. Biomass boilers use wood chips or pellets - a renewable resource - to heat the store rather than fossil fuel-based gas. We are also the first UK supermarket to commit to switching our entire refrigeration network to natural refrigerants by 2030 (i.e. CO2).
