Initial site works have now begun at the Churnet Works industrial site off Macclesfield Road, Leek.
Sainsbury’s contractors are preparing part of the site in order to demolish and clear the vacant buildings, which will be followed by the construction of the new, purpose-built employment units for a number of existing tenants.
This will allow the tenants to move into their new premises at the earliest opportunity, ensuring minimal disruption to their trade as the development progresses.
These works will be phased to ensure the existing tenants can continue to operate safely, whilst also creating minimal disruption to nearby residents.
The wider development will see Leek benefit from a substantial regeneration investment, including family housing, a 40,000sq ft Sainsbury’s foodstore, three bulky goods retail units, a petrol station and a public park along the River Churnet.
The development will create over 600 jobs for local people, with a range of opportunities including employment in the foodstore and the improved business facilities, as well as the retail warehouses.
Leek residents can rest assured that contractors will be working to a strict code of conduct and that disruption will be kept to an absolute minimum at all times.
The community will be kept updated on the programme of works throughout the entire development, but any questions regarding the demolition works can be put to Richard Harris on Sainsbury’s freephone 0800 975 5299.
Sainsbury’s Regional Development Executive, Michael Adenmosun, comments, “We’re delighted to be in a position to get on to the site and prepare the area for the new employment facilities. This will allow the existing tenants to move into their new premises as soon as possible, with minimum disruption to their trade.”
